TeeWire is the point of sale. Clover hardware is the card terminal. This guide covers exactly what to buy for the pro shop, F&B, and on-course, and steers you away from the gear that will not work.

How It Fits Together

TeeWire rings the sale and sends the amount to the Clover terminal over , Clover’s API. The terminal captures, encrypts, and the card, so card data never touches TeeWire. Settlement runs on Clover’s native rails.

Two hardware groups, bought in two places

Clover card terminals are ordered and boarded through your Clover/Fiserv account. The receipt printer, kitchen printer, and cash drawer are Star hardware driven by TeeWire and bought separately. That is the whole model. The builder below splits your shopping list the same way.

Only devices that Clover supports for can be driven by TeeWire. That list is short. Buy from it.

Which to pick: the Flex Pocket at the counter. TeeWire is the POS; the terminal is just the card reader, and the Pocket is exactly that. The Flex for anything mobile: beverage cart, halfway house, bag drop, starter. The Compact at $349 is the counter reader we would point you to once we finish validating it; see the warning below.

Do not buy these. TeeWire cannot drive them.

Clover Station Duo, Station Solo, Kiosk, and Clover Go are not REST Pay Display devices. Station Duo, Solo, and Kiosk are absent from Clover’s Pay Display support list. Clover Go has no screen and can only be driven by a native mobile SDK, not from a browser-based POS. A Station Duo is $1,899 that will not work with TeeWire.

Clover Compact ($349) is close, but not there yet: Clover updated its REST Pay Display docs in June 2026 to list the Compact as supported, alongside the Flex and Mini. But Clover’s own Pay Display support matrix and the original Compact announcement have not caught up, and we are still validating the Compact against TeeWire on a dev kit. Until that is done, get written confirmation from your Clover rep before ordering Compacts. At $349 it is exactly the basic reader a TeeWire counter needs, which is why the email is worth sending.

Procurement: Clover devices are account-locked

Terminals must be ordered and boarded through your Clover/Fiserv account. A retail or used Clover cannot be pointed at your processing, and Clover will not activate one bought second-hand. Budget roughly $12 to $15 a month per additional device on top of the merchant’s Clover plan.

Receipt Printer (Driven by TeeWire)

Prints the itemized TeeWire receipt and fires the cash drawer. Required at any station that takes cash, and many card-only counters add one anyway for the full itemized receipt.

Two ways to connect it

On a network cable (simplest). The TSP143IVUE is the USB/Ethernet (LAN) model with CloudPRNT. On Ethernet it talks to TeeWire by itself: nothing to install, no computer in the middle, and nothing else at the counter has to stay powered on. If a network cable can reach the counter, buy this one.

By USB into a Windows PC. Any Star TSP143IV, including the USB-only TSP143IVU that has no network socket at all, prints through the free TeeWire Print Agent. Install it once on the PC the printer is plugged into and receipts, the paper cut, the logo, the QR code, and the cash drawer all behave exactly as they do on a networked printer. The catch: that PC has to stay on. If it is asleep or shut down, receipts stop printing even though the printer is fine.

Why it works this way. TeeWire prints over Star CloudPRNT, a pull model: the printer polls TeeWire’s server outbound over the internet, so there is no port forwarding, no static IP, and no firewall change. A cloud-hosted POS cannot reach a printer sitting behind the course’s router, so the printer has to do the asking. The Print Agent simply does that asking on behalf of a printer that has no network connection of its own. Epson printers (TM-m30III, TM-T88VII) are still not supported, on either path. They use a different protocol TeeWire does not implement. Do not substitute.

Kitchen / Impact Printer

Thermal paper fades in kitchen heat and smears with grease. Use an impact printer for grill tickets.

Cash Drawer (Printer-Driven)

The drawer is kicked by the receipt printer, not the Clover terminal. One short RJ12 cable runs from the drawer to the printer’s kick port; TeeWire fires it on cash and check sales.

Star-to-Star pairing, so the trigger cable is in the box; nothing extra to source. The drawer opens automatically on cash and check sales only, never on a card sale, and never on a receipt reprint, so the till stays shut when it should.

How to Order Your Payment Terminals

You know what you need. Here is how a course actually buys it, who to ask, what to confirm before you approve the order, and what to do the day the boxes arrive.

Every Clover device is orderable. Not every one works.

Your rep can quote you a Station Duo without blinking, and it will ship, and TeeWire will never take a payment on it. Check the model in the compatibility checker before it goes on a purchase order, not after.

Two sources, never mixed

Clover terminals come from the account that boards your processing, because they are account-locked. Star printers and the cash drawer are ordinary retail hardware you buy yourself. Do not put the printer on the Clover order, and do not try to buy a Clover on Amazon.

Confirm the exact model before you ask for a quote

Run every device past the compatibility checker above. Clover sells several terminals TeeWire cannot drive, and they are not the cheap ones. A Station Duo is $1,899 that will never take a payment on TeeWire.

Find your Merchant ID (MID)

Your rep will ask for it first. It is on your monthly Clover statement and in the Clover Dashboard under Account & Setup. Have it in front of you before you call or write.

Order through the account that boards your processing

Clover terminals are account-locked, so the order goes through whoever holds your merchant account: Clover directly, or the reseller, bank, or ISO that signed you. Use the support number on your Clover statement or in your Clover Dashboard, not a general retail line.

Send the model, the quantity, and the station it goes to

Quotes come back faster when the request names the station. Build your list in the station builder above, then use the copy-ready email below; it fills in your device list for you.

Get three things confirmed in writing

Before you approve the order, ask your rep to confirm that each device supports Clover REST Pay Display driven by a third-party cloud POS, what the monthly fee per device will be, and what your processing rate is. This one email is what prevents a terminal arriving that cannot be used.

Order the printer, kitchen printer, and cash drawer separately

None of the Star gear comes from Clover. It is ordinary retail hardware you buy yourself, and TeeWire drives it directly. Leave it off the Clover order entirely.

Tell TeeWire the order is placed

Send your station list to TeeWire support at (810) 775-2035 or [email protected]. We will sanity-check it before the boxes ship and have your terminals configured in TeeWire the day they land.

Put it on the network

Wired where you can, Wi-Fi or LTE otherwise. No port forwarding, no static IP, no firewall change.

Open the Pay Display app and leave it open

Card payments only work while the Pay Display app is running on the terminal. If a staff member closes it or the device reboots, it has to be reopened. Put it in the opening checklist.

Pair it with TeeWire

Call TeeWire support and we will connect the terminal to your TeeWire POS, usually in one short call.

Run one small live sale, then void it

A real card, a small amount, then void or refund it. That proves the whole path end to end: TeeWire, terminal, processor.

Plug in the Star printer and test the drawer

Ring a cash sale and confirm the itemized receipt prints and the drawer opens. The drawer is kicked by the printer, so it opens on cash and check sales only, never on card sales or reprints.

Should the Clover terminal be on Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

Clover states a wired connection is the primary requirement for REST integrations, with Wi-Fi and LTE as fallback. The Flex and Flex Pocket run wireless by design. The Compact is the wired countertop option once our validation of it is complete; confirm with your Clover rep before ordering.

Do I need port forwarding, a static IP, or firewall changes?

No. Both the Clover terminal and the Star printer make outbound connections only. No port forwarding, no static IP, no firewall exceptions. Ordinary shop internet is fine.

Why did card payments stop working on the terminal?

The Pay Display app must be running on the Clover terminal. If a staff member closes it or the device reboots, card payments stop until it is reopened. Worth covering in staff training.

How do receipts work at the counter and on the cart?

At a counter with a Star printer, TeeWire prints the itemized receipt there. The Flex Pocket has no printer of its own, so its receipts go by text or email. On the cart, the Flex prints receipts from its built-in printer, or you can send them by text or email and save the paper.

Can I use a receipt printer that is plugged in by USB?

Yes. Install the free TeeWire Print Agent on the Windows PC the printer is plugged into and it prints exactly like a networked one, including the paper cut, the logo, the QR code, and the cash-drawer rules. Two limits: it is Windows only, and that PC has to stay on. If it sleeps or is shut down, receipts stop printing even though the printer itself is fine. Download it at teewire.com/downloads.

Where does card data go? What about PCI?

The terminal encrypts and tokenizes the card on-device, so TeeWire only ever handles a token. Card data never touches TeeWire.

Whose processing does TeeWire use?

Processing settles on Clover’s native rails.

Can I buy a Clover terminal on Amazon, eBay, or second-hand?

No. Clover terminals are account-locked. They are ordered and boarded through your Clover/Fiserv account. A retail or second-hand Clover cannot be activated on your processing.

What does Clover hardware cost per month?
